If you are a Graduate and Un-Employed and looking for Bank Jobs as a career option, then 2018 can be the year, when your dreams of becoming a banker, may come true and the reason is India's No. 1 Public Section Bank, SBI will soon announce its Recruitment Project -2018. Under the SBI Recruitment 2018, the bank will announce, 5000 clerk posts.

If sources are to be believed then the SBI Clerk 2018 Notification, may come before March, 2018. In our previous post, we have shared the step by step process for submitting the SBI Clerk 2018 Application form online and  today, in this post we are going to share with you, the Selection Process for the Recruitment of Clerks in SBI.

It is worth mentioning here that SBI Clerk Exam is one of the most competitive exams in India. If we go by the stats, then on an average, 500 candidates are competing for one post in SBI. So, to pass the clerk exam, with good merit it is highly advisable to start your preparation early and choose the right Books and Study Material for the exam. Applicant must choose only those books, then cover the complete SBI Clerk 2018 syllabus

Now, we will discuss with you the Detailed Selection process to be undertaken by SBI for the Recruitment of clerks in 2018. It is advisable that you start your preparation keeping in mind the Exam Patter, Cut Off and Competition in the exam.



SBI Clerk 2018 Selection Process


The Selection process for the Recruitment of clerks in SBI comprises of Written test and Interview. The Written Exam is of online mode only.

Written Exam: All the applications, who successfully submit their Online applications before the closing date will be issued Admit Cards, based on which they have to appear in the Online Exam at the specified Date, Time and Venue.

The Written Exam comprises of 200 Questions, with 40 Questions from each section. Each Question carries One Mark. The Question paper will have 5 sections as given below:

1) Test of Reasoning ( 40 Questions / 40 Marks)
2) Quantitative Aptitude ( 40 Questions / 40 Marks)
3) General English ( 40 Questions / 40 Marks)
4) General Awareness ( 40 Questions / 40 Marks)
5) Computer Knowledge & Marketing Aptitude ( 40 Questions / 40 Marks)

Exam Duration: The Online Exam will have a composite time of 2 Hours and 15 minutes

Sectional Cut Off: Applicants must know that there is Sectional cut off in the SBI Clerk Exam. The means you have to pass all the 5 sections individually and score the minimum aggregate marks to be shortlisted for Interview.


The Minimum Sectional Cut off marks will be decided by the bank. depending upon the performance of all the candidates taken together in each of the sections of the Written Exam. However candidates belonging to reserved categories will be given 5% relaxation in Subject wise marks.

Aggregate Marks: The minimum cut off marks on aggregate will be decided by the bank.

Shortlisting for Interview: The Bank will shortlist the candidates for Interview in the Ration of 1:3 to the no. of vacancies. 

Example : If bank Advertises 5000 clerk posts, then Total No. of candidates to be shortlisted for Interview is 15000 (ie 1:3)

Interview: Those candidates, who score the minimum specified marks in each of the section and also score minimum aggregate Percentage (Cut Off Marks) and Rank high in the Merit in Ratio of (1:3 ) to the no. of vacancies will be called for the Interview.


  • Applicants should also score minimum marks in the Interview also
  • Knowledge of Local Language will be added advantaged in the Interview and weightage for local language will be given as per the guidelines of Government
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/ OBC/PWD/XS categories will be given 5% relaxation in Interview marks
Final Merit : The Final Merit, will be based on the Candidates performance in the Written test and Interview. One the results are prepared the Selection list will uploaded on the Official website.
